Terms of Service for Tutors

Effective Date: 2024/05/23

Welcome to Tell Class! By becoming a tutor on our platform, you agree to the following Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.

1. Payments

1.1 When do tutors get paid?

Tutors are paid between the 2nd and 5th of the following month.

1.2 Minimum Payout

The minimum payout amount is €20. If you don't reach this amount, it will be carried over to the next month.

1.3 Payment Method

Tutors are paid via Wise.com in Euro. You must set up a Wise account and create a Euro account for your salary.

If you have a Euro, Filipino, or South African bank account, payments can be made directly to your bank account.

For other currencies: Set up a local currency account in Wise. Transfer your earnings from Euro to this account and use the Wise debit card or transfer to your local bank account. Note: Wise charges a small conversion fee, but provides a favourable exchange rate. To reduce fees, convert it into your local currency within wise, and send your local currency to your local bank.

1.4 Payment Rates

Tutors are paid €3 to €5 per 25-minute lesson, depending on your nationality.

2. Availability

2.1 Submitting Availability

Submit your availability schedule for the next 7 days. It's recommended to also provide availability for several weeks ahead.

Minimum required availability: 4 hours (8 lesson slots) per week, spread over 2 or more days.

2.2 Inactivity

If you don’t provide availability for the next 7 days, your profile will be hidden from students automatically. If your profile remains hidden for more than 30 days, your account may be deactivated unless a valid reason is provided and permission is granted by management.

3. Holidays and Profile Visibility

3.1 Holidays

To take a holiday, simply don't provide availability. To reactivate your profile, update your availability calendar, making it visible to students again. Be sure to let your regular students know that you are going away.

4. Cancellations and Booking Adjustments

4.1 Closing Available Time Slots

You can close available time slots without bookings at least 1 hour in advance.

4.2 Emergency Cancellations

Emergency cancellations must be made at least 4 hours before the class with a valid reason and an apology. This will be communicated to the student. There won’t be any penalty if done at least 4 hours before the class.

5. Penalties

5.1 Lateness

  • 1 Minute Late: 50% pay penalty (meaning: half pay) but you must complete the 25-minute lesson.
  • 2+ Minutes Late: Considered a no-show, with a 100% pay penalty (Meaning: zero pay). See 5.2 regarding the No-Show penalty.

5.2 No-Shows

  • Tutor No-Show: Zero pay + 100% pay penalty. This means your lesson rate will be deducted from your balance.
  • Student No-Show: Remain in class for 10 minutes to receive 50% pay. Keep the camera on, the microphone can remain off.

5.3 Leaving Early

Leaving the lesson before the end of 25 minutes results in zero pay. If the student leaves early, remain in the class for the full duration.

5.4 Cancellations

  • 4+ Hours Before Lesson: No penalty with a valid reason and apology.
  • Less than 4 Hours Before Lesson: Zero pay + 100% pay penalty and required to give a valid reason and apology.

6. Student Cancellations

Cancellations Less than 4 Hours Before -The tutor receives 50% pay for cancellations made by the student less than 4 hours before the lesson. The tutor’s time slot will automatically become available for new bookings.

7. Teaching Guidelines

7.1 Teaching Method

At TellClass, our goal is to improve students' English skills in a fun and natural way, using the Dogme Communication approach. This means prioritizing real-life conversations and experiences over traditional textbook methods. Grammar is learned naturally through speaking. Tutors are encouraged to be creative, focusing on engaging conversation exercises and tailoring lessons to each student’s needs.

7.2 Teaching Material

Use your own material. You can upload PDFs, PPTs, or Word documents, or share your screen. Some resources are available on the "Tutor Resources" page. You may also make use of AI tools like ChatGPT to create engaging lesson content.

8. Dress Code

Tutors should dress appropriately. Casual is acceptable, but avoid revealing clothing. T-shirts are fine, and smart casual is preferred. Avoid offensive images or jokes on clothing.

9. Tutor Safety

9.1 Flagging Inappropriate Behaviour

If a student behaves inappropriately, address it politely and firmly. If it continues, exit the class and flag the behaviour in the lesson details page to notify management.

9.2 Blocking a Student

You can block a student if you feel uncomfortable with them. This prevents the student from seeing your profile or booking you in the future. Add a note for reference.

10. Updates to Terms

These Terms may be updated periodically. Continued use of the platform implies acceptance of any changes.
